Another treatment pathway

Oral Appliance Therapy

For some people with snoring or obstructive sleep apnea, an oral appliance may be used instead of or alongside PAP therapy. Sleep Centers of Alaska coordinates this pathway with qualified treating dentists.

What is an oral appliance?

The device is custom made by a dentist and worn over the teeth during sleep. It positions the lower jaw forward to help reduce upper-airway collapse.

How the pathway works

When oral appliance therapy is clinically indicated, the sleep specialist can prescribe the treatment and refer the patient to a qualified dentist for custom fabrication and fitting.

Team-based follow-up

The treating dentist manages fitting and adjustment while the sleep-medicine team remains involved in evaluating the treatment response. Follow-up testing may be used when clinically appropriate.

Questions about whether this is right for you?

Sleep care should be individualized. The team can help determine the appropriate next step based on your symptoms, history and clinician recommendations.
