Overnight, not overwhelming
For an in-lab study, sensors monitor signals such as breathing, oxygen level, heart rate, brain-wave activity and movement while a sleep technologist monitors the study from an adjacent control area.
Diagnostic, titration and split-night studies
A diagnostic polysomnogram is used to record sleep and breathing patterns. When PAP therapy needs pressure-setting evaluation, a titration study may be ordered. In some cases, enough information is gathered early in the night for diagnostic monitoring and PAP titration to be completed during the same split-night study.
A room designed for sleep
Private sleeping rooms are intended to feel more like a quiet guest room than a clinical exam room. You can bring familiar bedtime items and wear your own sleepwear.
Daytime MSLT and MWT testing
For selected patients with excessive daytime sleepiness, a clinician may order daytime testing after an overnight study. MSLT evaluates how readily a person falls asleep during scheduled nap opportunities, while MWT evaluates the ability to remain awake during scheduled test periods.
After the study
Recorded data is scored and interpreted through the clinical review process. Follow-up is used to discuss findings and determine the appropriate next step.
Questions about whether this is right for you?
Sleep care should be individualized. The team can help determine the appropriate next step based on your symptoms, history and clinician recommendations.
